As of right now, best way to reach me would be to write a comment to one of my articles or on this page. I will update this page with a way to directly send me an email down the road.
If you or your organization is implementing a BI solution and is seeking an expert help on OBIEE tool or anything where you think I can help, feel free to reach out to me using this page. I can provide my 2 cents, free of cost of-course, to help you out.

Can you copy the actual error from error log? Above content has just INFO items, there should be a specific error as well. Also ensure you are looking at right log file for installation, path is is displayed during installation. Refer this video of installation i posted:

Also refer to following for location of other log files:

Hi Arun ,i'm preparing to pass obiee 11g certification in 2days and i have some doubts about some answer(10 questions) can you please verify if a have the right answer
ReplyDeleteWLS Embedded LDAP Server is managed by the Admin Server Console and supports which three options?
ReplyDeleteA.Creating and Maintaining Users
B.Authentication and Authorization
C.Basic Directory for storing user details
D.Subject area and row-level security,connection pool passwords
E.Application of SessionVariables as Data Filters
Looks like A,B,C are you right options. Where are you getting these questions from?
DeleteHi Arun,
ReplyDeleteI want install OBIEE 11g on my machine.
I have 4GB Physical memory, mine is Windows 7 Home premium, intel core i5 processor.
Is this config good to install?
I heard its not good.......
I would like to hear from you!!
Thanks,
Sri
It is on the lower side, however you can still install it. Choose 'simple install' and not 'enterprise install' to save on memory footprint. Also get a database server installed first as you need it to get RCU running.
DeleteHi Satish:
ReplyDeleteWe keep getting the following error every time we execute an OBIEE report with 40000 rows or more.
"Exceeded configured maximum number of allowed output prompts, sections, rows, or columns"
We have adjusted instanceconfig.xml file several times based on oracle support suggestion/Oracle Blogs and nothing seems to work.
We have checked the restriction of row fetch at respository level as well.
Our current version is "Oracle Business Intelligence 11.1.1.7.0"
Any help or suggestions that you offer will be of great help.
Thanks

did you update parameters using enterprise manager or manually updating the file? Avoid manual updates.
DeleteAlso look into mbean browser to alter settings.

DeleteHi Arun,
ReplyDeleteOur client wants to automate report download into excel sheet (contrary to ibot usage).
Can you please suggest whether OBIEE 10g provides any Web service/platform/framework/Java API (cannot use .net) to do the following :
Step 1: check whether report is available for a particluar day in the dashboard page
Step 2: Download in .xls/.xlxs format (sometimes merge as separate work book into same xl file)
When you say automate download into excel, it would also mean automate exception of report. There are only two ways of doing this, iBots and BI Publisher scheduler. In iBots, you have an option of delivering output only if report has results too. I think you should be using that option for this.
ReplyDeleteHi Arun,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the prompt reply.
As highlighted, we cannot use ibot (we already use them as you have suggested in other reports). Let me elaborate to give you a clear pciture:
The particular reports which our client wants to automate, involves some data analysis and reconciliation, post download. Hence we do not schedule ibot which mails the report once successfully available in the page (i.e. neither we cache seed them nor we schedule ibot).
The report are checked manually if available (cache purged if stale data is present) and once its available in the dashboard page, we use the download option and save it a windows folder for further data analysis (e.g. comparing the change to previously saved report) . Then we send the analysis to our client. This is part we want to automate.
I want to know apart from Ibot service (which mails us the ready report) are there any OBI API, so that using java we can invoke the download operation and save it in a file in unix environment (contrary to windows while manual download). Do let me know if I made my point clear/more confusing? Thanks in advance :)
Since you need to verify the contents manually, i suggest creating a flag field in a new table, example - wc_audit_flag_f. Use write back functionality on the report that you are checking manually to update this flag table after contents have been verified. Then let the report in iBot check for flag (as a precondition) before executing the report. This should work in your case.
ReplyDeleteI don't know any other method using API which is available.
Hi Arun,
ReplyDeleteCurrently I'm working as a C++ developer. I want to make my carrier in OBIEE 11g. To start I bought OBIEE Developer's Guide by Mark Rittman. Book is good for beginner?
Regards,
Nupur
I personally have not read that book, but Mark Rittman is prettily well know in OBIEE, so you can't go wrong there.
DeleteHello Mr. Kumar,
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to have a navigation menu on the Left hand side of the OBIEE Dashboard, where the charts or graphs displays on the right side of that menu.
My charts display on top of the menu!
Yeah, you can use dashboard layouts to have prompt on the left side and charts on the right.
DeleteWe have implemented OBIEE with pre-built for Oracle Finance and HR. We are having issues with slowly changing dimensions. Have you had any experience with SCD?
ReplyDeletePlease email me at the email below.
Thanks,
Satya
satya.sundaraneedi@aspentech.com
Yes I have experience in SCD, what is your issue about SCD?
DeleteHello Arun.
ReplyDeleteWe need to know if we can use a "file.txt" or "file.csv" in a filter prompt, for example a phone list with 1000 items.
Thanks in advance.
In prompts you cannot pass a file name like that. However you can build an analysis report that displays list of all phone numbers, and then use it to filter the main report on the result of this report (sub query).
DeleteMaybe I have explained badly. the idea is to filter the output of the report based on the phonebook stored in an external file to OBIEE for example in a. "txt" you can ask for when you run the report, not really a filter prompt but an structure in the SQL like: WHERE PHONE_NUMBER IN ('...........', [...] ,'..........').
ReplyDeleteThanks again.
I don't think you can do that directly in OBIEE. On a side note, you can write java code or javascript and embed that into a dashboard and pretty much do anything. I don't recommend doing it on a large scale though, as you might face issues during OBIEE upgrades.
